Residents of Kidbrooke Village will once again be served by the B16 bus route from early September, following work by Berkeley Homes, Transport for London (TfL) and the Royal Borough of Greenwich to reinstate the service.
The amended route will run four times an hour between Kidbrooke rail station and Bexleyheath. After serving Moorehead Way, the B16 will travel along Tudway Road to the
junction with Elford Close, via a new lay-by near to the southern entrance of Kidbrooke station, rather than stopping at Henley Cross.
The changes follow a consultation held this spring with local residents, service users and other key stakeholders, with the majority of respondents supporting the proposed new route. The summer months have seen Berkeley Homes working on a number of road improvements to accommodate the new route, including new stops along Tudway Road. The service will allow bus users to have easy access to the village centre at Kidbrooke, which includes a Sainsbury's, doctors' surgery, dentist and pharmacy.
After serving the Moorhead Way turning circle, which was installed by Berkeley Homes and Royal Borough of Greenwich last year, the restored service will travel along Tudway Road to the junction with Elford Close. Towards Bexleyheath, buses will travel via Elford Close, Ryan Close and Tudway Road to Kidbrooke Park Road, followed by Moorhead Way. (See map graphic)
Karl Whiteman, Divisional Chairman at Berkeley Homes, said: "Having listened to what local residents and their representatives told us about the importance of this route, we've worked hard with Transport for London and the Royal Borough of Greenwich to bring the B16 back on the roads within our control. The reinstated service will be integral to connecting Kidbrooke Village and the wider community. We will continue to work with Royal Borough of Greenwich to lobby for the reinstatement of the 178 on the new route and also for the introduction of new bus services linking Kidbrooke Village to North Greenwich."
